125 Amp Fuse Types Explained: Mega, Midi, ANL, and Class T | Fit Beats Amps

A 125 amp fuse is not one standard: MIDI, MEGA, ANL, and Class T differ in voltage rating, interrupt capacity, and the holder they bolt into.

Ordering one of these by amp rating alone is how you end up with a fuse that will not seat in the block you own, or one that cannot handle a fault on a 48V battery bank. Bolt spacing, holder type, DC voltage ceiling, and interrupt rating change between families, and the same 125A stamp appears on parts built for very different systems.

Two fuses with identical 125A labels can be built for 32V and for 160V DC. Here is what each family is actually rated for, and the three numbers that decide whether it belongs in your circuit.

125 Amp Fuse Types: Where Each Family Fits

MIDI is the compact bolt-down option, MEGA covers higher DC voltages, ANL handles heavy loads on ANL blocks, and Class T is a separate class built for inverters and high-amp DC protection.

Victron’s MIDI, MEGA and ANL fuse datasheet lists a MIDI 125A fuse at 32V in a smaller bolt-down body. The same document shows MEGA fuses at 125A in 32V, 58V, and 80V versions, so one amp rating exists across three voltage ceilings. For the 125A MEGA parts, Victron publishes roughly 90 mV of voltage drop and 0.4 mΩ of cold resistance. The 58V and 80V versions suit 48V and higher-voltage DC systems; the 32V version belongs on 12V and 24V builds.

ANL sits in a different bracket again. Victron’s ANL parts in that datasheet are 80V units listed at higher currents, and Blue Sea Systems notes that ANL fuses work with ANL fuse blocks for 35–750 amp loads. Blue Sea also sells a 125A fuse labeled AMG, rated to 70V DC with a 2,000A interrupt capacity at 32V DC and ignition protection, listed for MEGA/AMG fuse blocks.

Class T shares nothing with those formats. Eaton’s JJS-125 is a Class T fuse rated 125A and 600V, with 200 kAIC at 600 Vac and 20 kAIC at 160 Vdc, bolted blade ends, and a non-indicating body. Blue Sea’s guidance points to Class T for inverters and high-amp equipment, citing a 20,000A DC interrupting capacity and a 160V DC ceiling.

Can You Swap A 125A MEGA For A Class T Fuse?

No. A Class T fuse will not fit a MEGA or MIDI holder, and the families are not interchangeable by amp rating — each one bolts into its own holder ecosystem with its own dimensions and voltage ceiling.

Class T needs a Class T block; the T600 series is the family Blue Sea lists, and the Bussmann JJS-125 pairs with the TM600 block. Seat a part in the wrong block and it may not sit flush, which is when a fuse stops protecting anything.

Voltage rating is the second trap. A 32V MIDI fuse in a 48V system is running past its rating even though the amps match, which is why the same 125A MEGA rating comes in 32V, 58V, and 80V versions.

Interrupt rating is the third. A short on an inverter or a large battery bank can push thousands of amps through the fuse, and Blue Sea recommends Class T for those jobs because of its 20,000A DC interrupting capacity. Standard automotive-style formats do not carry that figure. Ignition protection is product-specific too: Blue Sea lists its 125A AMG fuse as ignition protected, and that status is not stated for every MEGA, MIDI, ANL, or Class T part.

Match The Holder Before You Match The Amps

The amperage on the label is only one of three numbers that matter, and it tends to be the one printed largest.

  • Read the block first: MEGA, MIDI, ANL, AMG, and Class T holders take physically different parts.
  • Match the printed DC voltage rating to the system voltage, not just the amp number.
  • For inverter and battery-bank protection, Class T is the format Blue Sea points to for high-amp DC.

Fuse rating follows the wire and the manufacturer’s spec rather than what happens to be in stock, so a 125A circuit keeps a 125A fuse unless the maker says otherwise.

Are MEGA and AMG fuses the same thing?

Blue Sea Systems labels its 125A part AMG and lists it for MEGA/AMG fuse blocks, so the two names overlap in the holder they share. The ratings still come from the individual product, so check the printed voltage and interrupt figures on the fuse you buy rather than assuming two labeled families are identical.

What happens if I use a fuse with a lower voltage rating than my system?

A fuse with a lower voltage rating than the system may not interrupt a fault the way it should, because the arc across the element can keep going at a voltage the part was not built for. Victron publishes the same 125A MEGA rating in 32V, 58V, and 80V versions for that reason.

Do inverters need a Class T fuse?

Blue Sea Systems recommends Class T for inverters and high-amp equipment, listing a 20,000A DC interrupting capacity and a 160V DC maximum.
