What decides whether that happens is the ground underneath: poured concrete takes drilled fasteners, bare soil takes augers tied to the frame, and the two kits share almost nothing. Which Anchors Does Your Foundation Call For?

Poured concrete takes drilled fasteners — the Arrow shed manual’s spec for slabs, footings, and patio blocks is a 1/4″ x 2″ lag screw — while soil and unpacked ground take screw-in ground anchors or augers joined to the shed legs or base frame by cable or strap.

Ground anchors hold by biting into packed soil, then need tension to keep holding. Drive or screw the auger down, run its cable or strap up to the shed leg or base frame, and tighten until no slack is left for the building to rock on.

Anchoring A Metal Shed To Concrete: Where The Holes Go

Concrete anchoring follows a set order: level and square the frame first, then the corner gussets, then the evenly spaced hold-down clips, and last the front frame.

  1. Level and square the floor frame. Anchoring locks the frame where it sits, so any twist you leave in it stays in it.
  2. Set the corner gussets into the floor-frame corners. Drill a 1/4″ hole through the center hole into the concrete, 2 inches deep, tap in the anchoring bolt, and tighten the nut.
  3. Install the hold-down clips at equally spaced intervals, drill 1/4″ holes the same way, and anchor each clip the way you did the gussets.
  4. Drill a 1/4″ hole at the center of the front floor frame, 2 inches deep, and anchor it with a bolt.
  5. Match the screw to the surface: 1/4″ x 2″ lag screws for poured slabs and patio blocks, 1/4″ x 6″ lag screws for anchor posts poured after erection, and 1/4″ wood screws for wood.
  6. Keep the holes tight and square. The frames already have 1/4-inch anchoring holes; holes you drill in concrete need a right angle to the surface and no more than 1/32 inch oversize, or the anchors won’t hold.

The install is right when the nuts pull down snug without lifting the frame and the building won’t rock when you push a corner. Where Anchoring A Shed Goes Wrong

The same handful of mistakes sinks most installs: anchoring a frame that isn’t level or square, using the wrong fastener for the surface, drilling holes that are too wide or off-angle, and stopping short on anchor count.

  • Anchoring too early. Level and square come first; anchors can’t pull a frame straight afterward.
  • The wrong hardware. A wood screw drops out of concrete, and a masonry anchor has nothing to bite into on a deck.
  • Sloppy holes. Past 1/32 inch oversize, or off square to the surface, and the anchor simply won’t hold.
  • Too few anchors. Guidance calls for one at every leg or corner plus even spacing along the frame, which can mean a second kit on a large building.

Do You Still Need Anchors On Gravel Or Pavers?

Yes. Loose gravel and pavers don’t grip a shed frame, and a building that merely rests on them can slide or lift in wind. Two routes work: set patio blocks under the frame and fasten with 1/4″ x 2″ lag screws as the Arrow manual describes, or drive ground anchors past the surface into packed soil beneath and tension the straps.

Can You Fasten A Shed To A Wooden Deck Or Post?

You can, but the hardware changes. Check that the framing under the shed can take the wind load before you depend on it.
